OK, had a look at Del icio.us. Got an account, added some sites and all that. Must admit I don’t find the whole thing very exciting. I can see that it could be useful to have all your bookmarks etc in one place, especially with comments – the “notes” field is good! But I'm quite happy with ordinary old bookmarks/favourites, maybe even Bloglines. Do I really need another one?
No, I don't, but for those who need or want to keep track of their resources and current thinking in their area of interest this tool would be a boon. A concern with thinking about Del.icio.us is a public setting, such as a public library, is adding the buttons to a public computer. Perhaps there's a way round this?
So, although it could be useful, Del.icio.us is not for me. The social networking values of Del.icio.us are emphasized, but my idea of social networking is getting together with my friends with a glass (or three) of wine. And talking FACE TO FACE!
